19th C. Hand Painted Semi Nude Portrait Urn

Now here is a rare beauty! This stunning urn or vase has an exceptional center portrait of a semi nude maiden, a cherub and a fairy playing in a field under a tree. The beautiful painting was signed by W.Payne. Surrounding the painting is a large maroon, green & yellow urn with a majolica glaze and golden border. The urn stands 12 inches high and 8 inches across the handles. The base is marked only with impressed numbers and no makers mark to be seen. I believe it is circa 1880 from Germany. The urn is actually two pieces with a nut and bolt tightly holding it together. There really is no damage other than light crazing and perhaps a little rubbing of gilt. I think the colors on this make it a more manly piece. Or perhaps it is the semi naked lady I'm looking at! Either way, it is a rare and wonderful piece of history!
