Sensational, Outstanding, Rarest Commesso Cameo Purse Mirror Signed!

Welcome to everyone! This cameo that I have the pleasure to offer for your joy today, is not an usual cameo. This kind of cameo is called "Commesso" and there is not translation for that word, even in English it is called so. "Commesso" is a technique which started in late sixteenth century Florence. This technique consisted in applying some enamelled gold, or other precious stones on the shell to form a dress, a crown, a jewel and so on, Those decorations were fixed on the back through a gold wire, in a hole in the shell. The "commesso" cameos one must not be confused with the "habille" cameos that only mount a necklace or a diamond into the shell and were typical of the art deco period.The words above are only to specify the technique that a great artist of our days has personalized to make his own artworks. He does not use enameled gold or other metals to create the clothes, the hats, the ornaments, he uses stones as corals, shells, mother of pearls, malachite, lapis-lazuli and so on to create those artworks and he is the only one, well known all over the world, to make those magnificent works. The one I'm presenting you today is a purse mirror mounted with a "Commesso" cameo. The mirror is made of grey mother of pearl, look at its shining, like a rainbow, simply stunning. The cameo is made of pink shell, for the face, grey mother of pearl and red coral, Momo (also called Cerasuolo) quality, for her hair. Signed on the bottom with the name of the artist Crescenzo Gaglione, the only one who is able to make artworks like this one. Look how he used the colors of the pink shell to give to her face a ouch of blush on her cheek, amazing! The cameo-mirror is from circa 1985, mounted with 18k gold, not marked but totally guaranteed. On the gold button that makes the mirror opens, was impossible to put the gold mark to not damage the cameo. The size of the mirror is 2 6/8" by just under 2 2/8", the cameo is 1 7/8" by 1 6/32 at its widest point, and the inside mirror is 1 5/8". This one is unique in the world, you will not find anything like this because each work of that master carver is always unique, even if he use the same technique for his cameos, no cameo is the same of another one, for this reason they are rare and are the most wanted on the market of the vintage and new cameos.
