SOLD 1940's Black Americana Chef Pie Vent-BOOK PIECE
From out of an old estate, this is a 1940's vintage pie vent or pie bird in the form of a Black American chef. This is pictured on page 45 of "Collectibles for the Kitchen, Bath & Beyond" by Ellen Bercovici, Bobbie Zucker Bryson and Deborah Gillham. They have pictured two different ads from 1945 which tell us that he was called "Pie-Aire, The Chef" and was manufactured by James Barry Products of Chicago. This CUTIE stands 4 1/2" tall and is painted yellow, brown, white and black with red mouth. He is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. He has some overall crazing, consistent with age, and very faint staining on the back of his legs...again, consistent with age. This is a guaranteed oldie...NOT a reproduction. Whether you collect pie birds or Black Americana, he will make a CHARMING addition to your collection!
