Absolutely stunning vase! This fine piece of art measures 13 3/4" tall and 8 3/4" wide from feathery handle to handle. The foot is 4 1/2" wide. The neck is pierced and lovely. It has two scenes. One of a victorian lady with veil and the other is of a sweet cherub with a flowing banner. The handpainted embellishments are colors of mint, lime and teal green, light blue and pink to maroon hues with wonderful gold accents. It is marked NPSK on the bottom. Most probably produced between 1873-1891. At this time Japanese artists were being trained by euro artists to copy this euro style to market there wares to Europe & the US.This mark would change sometime after 1891 when the words Dow Sie Cot Ure Nippon would be added to comply with US Import law. This company may have been the only Japanese Company to mark there pieces prior to 1891. Condition: There are no repairs. It does have have two very slight nicks next to one another on the bottom of the foot along the scroll. In addition there are three very very small flakes off the pierced scroll work at the neck of the vase. On the feathery handle there is a very very slight flake. The flaws are very minimal and require very close inspection to notice. The pattern and design is very vibrant and very much intact. It is truly beautiful!
Rare find!
