We have a nice and rare glass-paste portrait of Robert Adam in its original frame by James Tassie. The portrait measures 2 1/2" tall. It is in very fine condition without hairlines or other defects. Bust truncation reads: "Robert Adam, Architect, Died 3 March 1792 in his 64th year, Tassie Fecit."
The portrait in its original, deep hardwood frame that measures 6 x 7 inches. The thickness is 1 1/2 inches. It retains its original glass with felt backing. Although the felt has toned and lost some of its original color, it is still in very good condition.
Eighteenth-century Tassie portraits are rare and popular. Museums and private collectors are always in search of good Tassie portraits. As a result, price keeps going up. This is classic supply and demand, where demand exceeds supply.
