Circa 1820 Miniature Portrait Gentleman

This miniature painting comes in its original black frame with gilt liner and fancy brass hanger that measures 4 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches. The rectangular opening is 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches. Aside from a ding at top left corner, the frame is in fine condition.

The portrait has a blue-green background, which works well for this sitter. What is amazing is the extra fine workmanship of the sitter's hair by the artist; each strand of hair is clearly defined. The eyes are painted very realistic as well. This portrait is photograph-like. There are some paint roughness to the left of the sitter's face and on his tunic at left chest area. But because his all-important face is clean, and that the frame is attractive, this portrait diplays very well.
