Rare Japanese Samurai Turned Diplomat Letter and Calling Card

This is a nice complete set that includes his letter addressed to a Mayoress, Hon. Miss Green, a cover, and his calling card in which Hayashi autographed in English and Japanese. All the writings are in Hayashi's hand.

Tadasu Hayashi (1850-1913) fought as a Tokugawa samurai during the Boshin War. According to wikipedia, "The Boshin War was a civil war in Japan, fought from 1868 to 1869 between forces of the ruling Tokugawa shogunate and those seeking to return political power to the imperial court." Some of Hayashi's honors include: Order of the Sacred Treasure, 1st class (1895), Order of the Rising Sun, 1st class (1899), Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Cordon (1906), Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (1905).

Rather than me quoting what is written on the net, I will let you have fun with research. Hayashi was a very important man! This historical letter group is rare. Once framed with his photo (easily found on the net), it will make for a super display.
