Popular 18th Century Anti-Slavery Token

$100 USDPopular 18th Century Anti-Slavery Token

Antiques:Coin Medal
The token is about the size of a 50 cent piece and struck in copper/bronze. Not a high grade piece but has nice color and surfaces. Though weak in areas, the obverse reads, "AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER" showing a kneeled slave in chain. The reverse is reads, "MAY SLAVERY AND OPPRESSION CEASE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD" with a handshake denoting friendship.

Bust truncation reads: "Robert Adam, Architect, Died 3 March 1792 in his 64th year, Tassie Fecit." The portrait in its original, deep hardwood frame that measures 6 x 7 inches. Ca.1825 American Hollow-Cut Silhouette Lovely Child I

$395 USDCa.1825 American Hollow-Cut Silhouette Lovely Child I

Antiques:Primitives:Antiques:Silhouettes
Originally found in Maine, I believe this silhouette to be an early work by Samuel Banton (see another listing for its sister). This sitter is perhaps seven or eight years of age. She has penciled embellishment. There is a closed tear above her head; it does not run into the cutting. Aside from some very minor toning, the paper is fresh and strong, mostly white. The black mat is not old. It is made of acid-free paper with hand-decorated gold design. It works nicely. She is in a period, gilt pine ...

$395 USDCa.1825 American Hollow-Cut Silhouette Lovely Child II

Antiques:Primitives:Antiques:Silhouettes
Originally found in Maine, I believe this silhouette to be an early work by Samuel Banton (see another listing for its sister). This sitter is perhaps four or five years of age. She has penciled details. The wove paper is still quite fresh and strong, and mostly white. The black mat is not old. It is made of acid-free paper with hand-decorated gold design. It works nicely. She is in a period, gilt pine frame with original bubbled glass that measures 4 1/8 x 4 3/4 inches. The opening is 2 3/4 x 3 ...
Suberb Ca.1830 Identified Silhouette Young Man Maine

$595 USDSuberb Ca.1830 Identified Silhouette Young Man Maine

Antiques:Primitives:Antiques:Silhouettes
There is an old tag on the back of the frame that says, "Arad Hazeltine, born in Warwick, Feb. 1794." This Arad is no doubt the same Arad as the one born on 15 Feb 1794 in Warwick, Franklin, Mass. He moved to Maine and married Anastasia Cotterill in 1822. Arad served during the War of 1812 as a corporal and later became a lawyer in Newcasle, Maine. This is a very fine silhouette that is well cut with penciled hair details. The frame is black painted pine that measures 4 3/8 x 5 1/4 inches. The ...
Very Rare American 19th Century Double Silhouette

$695 USDVery Rare American 19th Century Double Silhouette

Antiques:Primitives:Antiques:Silhouettes
This is only the second one I ever saw or owned. There are plenty of those "assembled" double silhouettes in a single frame, but they are two separate silhouettes placed in one frame. We can all assemble something like that easily. This present offering, however, is the real McCoy. This is a pair of hollow-cuts from one sheet of wove paper. Both silhouettes are well cut without defects. The paper has slight toning. What appears to be a laceration to the left of the woman's head is actually a ...
Early 19th Century Miniature Portrait Man Brass Frame

$425 USDEarly 19th Century Miniature Portrait Man Brass Frame

Antiques:Primitives:Antiques:Portrait Painting
This is a nice miniature portrait dating to about 1820 of a man worked in watercolor and gouache. He is very well painted on card. Aside from some minor wear to the border, he is in fine condition. The brass-over-wood period frame has been refinished nicely and measures 4 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches with an opening of 2 5/8 x 3 3/8". The sitter's backgroung color matches well with the frame and makes for an attractive display. No money? No biggie! See my easy layaway plan.
