This very opulent & quite superb Spode Coffee Can has a rich deep blue or "mazarine" ground, which is extensively gilded. This kind of decoration was in imitation of the Sevres porcelain, and is typical of the early 19th Century.

Being Spode it is made from a very high quality bone china (Josiah Spode invented & perfected the formula for bone china around c.1800), and the potting & craftsmanship is second to none.

Although unmarked it is unquestionably Spode, having the typical Spode handle.

Excellent Condition. Very minor gilt wear to the right of the handle where the thumb would rest, suggesting that it has been used by a left handed person!

Item ID: Spodecan1
