The title is "Up the Street and Down" and has 28 stories of life around neighborhoods and parks, schools , and shops back in the good old days.The authors are Welch and Betts, 2 notable educators from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida. After each unit of 4 or 5 stories there is a "PHONICS" lesson and a"THINKING ACTIVITIES" lesson! The authors were education, reading, and psychology experts at the university.

This book has amazing illustrations by 8 artists, and the style is like the Dick and Jane series, but a bit more fun with splashing in a fountain, (too cool off in Miami heat) and shopping at a green market(wonderful graphics). The last 27 pages are lessons the teacher can introduce and colorful, wonderful pages of illustrated words in a flashcard -like example which could be framed for a childs' room, or pre-school . The colors are many, and the characters are numerous, not just 2 or 3. The entire book is great. I have another book like this in my shop , please see "Aboard the Story Rocket"! Very good condition.
