This Palm Beach estate goodie is possibly Majolica, but we think it is a tiny bit newer than the Victorian era. The owner told us it is majolica, but we can not confirm that positively, so we will tell you it is pre- 1949
This BEAUTIFUL large, 11" tall x 6 3/4" wide parrot is dark cobalt or india blue, with some black shading and black tail and wing tips. As you can see there is a white face(off white), yellow tan beak, light brown chest. The feet are the same tones as the beak. The pillar it is sitting on is a mottled rust brown mostly, with some very interesting swirls of darker brown glaze that appears to have spotted in a few small places making it look like wood or stone. The spray of bamboo under him and on the pillar is gorgeous greens, with lots of shades of leaf green adding realism to an already wonderfully realistic piece. There is also a bamboo shoot next to the bamboo branch and leaves. The details in the clay are very exceptional. Each feather has many carvings on it to show the details of feathers. The eyes are very realistic , even though the photos we give you do not show that detail perfectly. The bottom has one mold hole where it is supposed to be, and no makers mark. The bottom is very aged, and someone has put 2 newer rubber bumper spots on the bottom to keep it from scratching furniture. This parrot was COVERED with dust, and other things like cobwebs, and ash, when we bought it. We removed the mess, very carefully, but it is now nicely cleaned and fresh, yet the finish is original. The bottom base is a bit dirty underneath so you can see some of the age it came to us with. If this was majolica, it would be easily $1000 + , but we sell it for less, since we bought it for less. Very very good condition, almost mint. Free US shipping all our wonderful items.
