Written by Madeline BRANDEIS, and published by Gosset and Dunlap Publishers New York, it is from the "The Children of America Series". The story is seen through the eyes of Carmen as she explores the beautiful golden coast . Waking up in her Los Angeles home, she travels by car with her parents to Tahoe, the Redwood Forest, Yosemite, Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, Oregon, San Fransisco, Portland, and Seattle. While she travels she reads the diary of her great-great aunt who took the same trip in a wagon train.
