Fabulous, trade sign, it is a giant antique sign, handmade of wood, from a studio of an artist in the Hudson Valley(famed area of fine artists in American history). The shape is a painters palette and it is dripped with real oil paints that have either been dripped on over the years or were intentionally piled on to create the sign originally! The thumb hole is nicely tapered with no splintering, but it is large and probably the sign was just too large to actually use as a palette. The lettering is a deep mustard yellow, some areas have cracks, with red highlights, and the the wood is very dark brown which has patina from years of age. The paint drips are nice and bright like the lettering, with all the colors of an average paint selection splashed on the palette. As you can see from the pictures it is solid brown wood on the back, unblemished except for natural patina., and there are a few scratched places that do not impair the lettering or effect. size is approximately 27"long x 16" high. Good condition, with chippy spots from the old paint. the lettering is very readable, and good, but some spots have wear. Overall it looks like a very good antique sign as it would look if used like it was. You can read all the portions from a distance, and see all the paint splashes .
