Published by American Book Company New York Cincinnati Chicago, this antique book has 1 dog eared page, and a few pencil marks on a few of the pages. There is some wear on the edges of either end of the cover, but the title is clear and shimmers in gold tone. There are many pages with lovely , truly great engravings of Homer, Medea, Jason,Icarus,Perseus, Hercules( photo from the statue in Naples, Italy), Hercules as an infant, nymphs,Ceres, Proserpina, The Marriage of Bacchus and Ariadne, Venus and Mars, Mercury, Cupid, Psyche, and many more. This is college level textbook or adult reading. The Adventures of Ulysses are included in the text, as are poems, an analysis of Classical myths, and a glossary. There are 428 beautiful pages. The original owner may have been A.M. Wiltebeitel as a past era hand signed signature is written in the upper front left inside cover. Also there is a later signature by Ralph Vaughn Villiner with Pastoral Symphony written beneath that name. Inside the book there is a receipt from the University of South Carolina bookstore, where this may have been sold at one point or just used as a bookmark. The pages are nicely aged, but not brittle, the cover is cloth bound, with the title and author printed in gold.
