The old cup plate is reborn in this collection from Pairpoint Glass of Sagamore Massachusetts. The use of the cup plate in 1850 to 1870 sprang from a need to cool the hot coffee to drink in polite society. The coffee was poured into the cup's saucer and sipped from there, the cup plate arose when it became clear there needed to be a place to rest the cup while the saucer was being used to drink from. As a collector of these diminutive plates you will enjoy this Pairpoint treasure of Lightfoot Deer. The mold was retired and destroyed in 1977. The 3 1/2 ' plate comes packaged in its own box and has an explanation of the plate and this series with it. The factual story of the plates and low price make these plates a great collectors item. Unique, fun and affordable.
