Another great hand painted figural made in Japan and distributed by National Pottery Company of Cleveland, Ohio. (NAPCO) This 6 1/2" porcelain figural is of a seated woman petting a white cat. The painting on this item is rather spectacular, the piece is very detailed. The width at the base is 2 1/2". Lovely gift item for the figural, cat or made in Japan collector. Winsome and decorative, the piece is stamped "Made in Japan" in black, is numbered and bears the National Potteries Co. sticker

The skill of the artists in the making of this plate amazes me each time I see it. The 11" plaque depicts four boats fishing or under sail in a blue sea. The detail in this piece shows two men spreading their net in the water, small ripples emanate from the net as it flows into the sea. The old cup plate is reborn in this collection from Pairpoint Glass of Sagamore Massachusetts. The use of the cup plate in 1850 to 1870 sprang from a need to cool the hot coffee to drink in polite society. From the 20's when all manner of cigarette storage boxes came on the scene, this box, in the form of a trunk held by a Chinese porter ,would have graced a living room table. Today, we can use it for trinkets, potpourri or whatever you desire. He is in good overall condition, the elephant figure on the trunk lid is gilded and remains secure to the cover.
