Beneath the leather writing area are two large compartments for the storage of paper and other writing materials. A brass rotating hinge is used as a lock on the panels. Lifting either panel reveals an unpolished inner compartment. The "unpolished" interior wood is sometimes used as an indicator of Georgian Era boxes. Removing the brass pin reveals a large hidden drawer which can pulled with one of the brass handles. The drawer is the full width of the box (20"). The box is in very good order. There is a very small piece of the inlay missing at the key hole, and two very tiny nicks at the bottom of the box. Otherwise, beautiful.
The writing slope measures 20" wide; 9 1/2" deep; 51/2" high.
This is a gorgeous writing slope, and would look wonderful on a desk in an office, or on a side board.
