This is a brass bound solid walnut writing box using dovetail construction in the military style. This gorgeous box has drop side handles set into the box, and a full length side drawer for papers. Inside this writing box is a sloping leather writing surface and underneath this Moroccan red with gold tooling there are two compartments for papers and writing implements. The writing box is fitted with three secret drawers hidden behind a walnut panel. The drawers are accessed by lifting the right side slate on the left hand inkwell. The box also has two ink wells, pen tray, and compartments for stamps and other writing materials.

The box has a brass escutcheon and an engraved cartouche'. See the photos for the text of the engraving which reads: Presented to Mr. T. P. Adam by the employees of the Crosshouse Co-op Assoc. Ltd. As a token of esteem in his appointment as manager to Bridge of Weir Co-op Society Ltd. 30th August, 1910. This box is older than the inscription, a style made in 1860 and was bought by the employees for the presentation to a very popular manager.

Size: 20 inches by 10 15/16 inches by 8 7/16 inches. When opened, the writing surface is 16 inches by 16 inches.

This writing slope is in beautiful condition with no cracks or repairs to the wood. The brass is in excellent condition as well and the lock and key are in outstanding working order. This is one of the most beautiful boxes that we have offered for sale in our shop and are very pleased to make it available.
