This is a gorgeous oil painting on canvas entitled "Highlanders at Home" by the British painter, A. Dunnington (1830 - 1890). Dunnington was well known for his paintings of British and Scottish landscapes, farms, animals and especially the Highland cattle. Highland cattle, also known as Dexter cattle, originated in Ireland, and spread not only across Great Britain, but were brought to other continents, including North America and Australia.

In this gorgeous original oil painting, Dunnington has painted three Highland cattle, two resting, one standing, looking out over a vast Scottish valley with mountains in the background. The cattle are beautifully painted showing their characteristic face and long hair. Purple flowers near the cattle, and a pinkish glow on the sides of the mountain reflecting to the clouds give the painting a feel of sunset.

This canvas painting measures 15 1/4" by 23 1/2". Please add 3 1/2" for the frame, which is painted in a gold gilt. The canvas is in wonderful condition; there are no rips, scratches or tears to the painting.

This is a lovely example of paintings done by A. Dunnington, one of Britain's well known 19th Century artists (listed in Davenport).
