English Victorian/Regency Walnut Writing Slope

This is an English writing box made of solid walnut with brass corners, and supports. This walnut writing box has a brass inlaid escutcheon that has never been engraved. The writing slope is gorgeous. Although I have dated it as Victorian it could very well be Regency (1800 - 1830). The box opens to reveal red tooled leather in perfect condition has two spaces for ink, a pen tray that has been veneered in walnut and space for quills or pens Inside the box, there are two compartments, one under the lower flap, and one under the upper flap. Writing paper was stored here. These surfaces are polished. Under the pen and ink tray you will find three secret drawers. Access is found by releasing the spring loaded panel on the ink/pen tray. The box is fitted with high quality catches and lock with a key. The box measures 19 7/8" x 10 7/16" x 6 7/8".
