Morris & Bendien, NY Fashion Plate Blonde Sitting Litho by Sandre

I found these as a set of two (please see the other listing, LA-002) over 20 years ago in a tiny antique shop in the midwest. Another antique dealer friend said that before fashion magazines, often times there were what they referred to as fashion plates which showed the styles of the period. She thought perhaps that was the inspiration for these.

Personally, i don't feel the detail of the garments supports that theory. I think they're just pretty drawings (lithos) from a talented artist (Sandre).

Southern Belles, perhaps. Gentlemen in waistcoats dancing and courting them. Rich soft colors with other dancers (in one) and musicians (in the other) as background.

The edges of both are darkening, which, I think adds to their beauty. This one with the sitting lady, however does have a small patch of tiny piercings...looks as if a tiny compass pierced the surface which is on the lower part of her skirt near the flounce.

These are numbered, also, this one is 23907.
