Antique Italian Hunting Tapestry Horses, Dogs & Wild Boar

This is a gorgeous woven tapestry measuring 46" by 19.5". It is in wonderfully muted tones of persimmon red, deep navy blue to charcoal gray, soft rich olive green, and dusky warm shades of peach.

This is a hunting scene, with ladies and gentlemen riders and hunters on horseback, horns swung over shoulders, another drawing his sword. The ladies ride side-saddle, of course, and wear peplum jackets with their long skirts, and tiny "doll" hats perched to the front of their heads.

The dogs are Beagles, spotted, 13 in all, and they have caught up to a wild boar with curled tusks, fighting for his life.

There is a stone bridge in the background, with a building next to it; the setting is forested, yet fenced, and quite pretty, if not for the hunt.

The two side hems are fringed, about 1.25-1.5" deep. Feels like silk, but may be cotton. We have shown photos of the back, as well, and have more that we can email to serious buyers, if requested.

This has a stamp on the back: MADE IN ITALY, toward the lower right hand corner...its difficult to make out, and honestly didn't notice it until we were listing it.

This is an estate find; the neices and nephews knew no history of its origins, or of the tapestry itself.

This would be dramatic hung over a stone mantle, or quite lovely and urbanized if matted and framed.
