We are on our annual buying trip, so our next shipping dates are Dec 1, 2 & 3; after that we'll ship Jan 1. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
The box measures 11 and 5/8" by three and 5/16" by 2.25" high. It is very lightweight wood; typically these were made from ash or balsa wood. Each piece of wood is 3/16" thick.
These were often made as gloves boxes, however they were used for jewelry, hair combs, brushes, and other trinkets as well.
This has two 1/2" hinges attached from inside under the lid; it is marked (something) May 6-13. We've never noticed them being dated before; this is pretty neat!
Condition on this is quite good, although it does have some issues: there are a couple of dark spots on the lid; the one farthest to the left looks like an ink mark almost; the other one more towards the left-center appears to be a burn mark where the heat was left a touch too long. The hinges are securely attached; all nails are present. One BOTTOM nail is surrounded by a wood crack; there is also a crack in the back panel.
This is still quite sturdy, and a wonderful addition to a pyrograph collector's trove, or a Christmas poinsettia collector's treasures.
