Seller’s Note: Herndon Historical Society edition lists Lottie birth as 1879 and death 1967. Her father was Elisha Dyer. I didn’t see mention of her mother but I haven’t heard the booklet completely.
Excerpt from Civil War Days P.9:
“There were a number of people that I knew as a girl who had aided Colonel Mosby who was known for his raids in northern Virginia. Two of his helpers I knew were Tobe Burr and Ben Gatton. I loved to go out to Miss Laura Ratcliff’s house on the way to Chantilly. She had been a spy for Mosby and often warned him of enemy troops nearly and arranged for shelter for him. I remember well this bright-eyed little woman who wore dangling gold earrings. Her house nestled in the trees with a brook singing below. I knew her before she married Milton Hanna, a northern gentleman, but we still called her ‘Miss Laura.’”
Condition: Cover is sun faded, especially around edges. Front has old sticker ghost and some outlines of something that splashed on the booklet. There is a liquid stain on both sides of the cover at the bottom. Upper corner and first two pages of front are lightly bent. Not even close to perfect but a delightful booklet to have for your Herndon history or family collection.
