J. Arthur Rank’s “The Red Shoes” SPECIAL SCHOOL DISCOUNT COUPON.

“A delight to the eye, the mind and the heart...an epic cinema achievement.” Jay Carmody, The Evening Star.

“This coupon will admit one student or instructor to any performance of ‘The Red Shoes’ for 60˘. Tax included, when presented at the box office, subject to compliance with the known policy of the National Theatre. Offer good for school personal only; all others are required to pay full admission. NATIONAL THEATRE, Washington D.C. Two Shows Daily ....... [Show times deleted.]

J. Arthur Rank is listed as the Studio Chief for the “The Red Shoes.” I am dating this in the early 1950s for the following reasons: “The Red Shoes” was released in the 1940s [one listed 1948] according to online encyclopedias. The National Theatre which was rebuilt in the 1920s was a movie house for a short period in the early 1950s, returning to theater productions in 1952. That would make it just about two years of playing movies. Jay Carmody, a critic for The Evening Star called it “an epic cinema achievement” further evidence it was a movie, not a theatrical production. Joseph Arthur Rank [1888-1972].

CONDITION: There is a light stain on one coupon, seen on the first item. This is darker in the scan, in my opinion. Colors: Red lettering on white. 3" X 4".
