Featuring Cats & Dogs: Helping our Ancestors and Us through Stressful Times . . . even when they are sitting on our keyboard.
The Wisdom of Life: Thoughts on Intimate Problems of Life booklet. Compiled and Edited by The House Friend radio program. Courtesy of Coward. Copyright 1937 by The Coward Shoe, Inc. 24pp. [Note: 12 pages in English and 12 in Hebrew. Size: 3 3/4" X 7 1/4.” Paper wraps, two staples.
This was a booklet given out by a radio broadcaster (who apparently was sort of a “Dear Ab-y” answering queries) and Coward Shoes, Inc.
The Coward ad on Pg 12 had this as well as other sayings: “If something troubles your heart, remember The House Friend. If something troubles your feet, remember Coward.” “Coward shoes are easy to wear; Coward stores are easy to reach. In New York: 270 Greenwich St., 37 West 47th St., Empire State Building (34th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues). In Brooklyn - 442 Fulton St. Near Hoyt Street. By keeping your feet in Coward shoes, you keep them out of trouble.”
From Page 2:
“...I am presenting them [the words of wisdom] to you in a simple and popular form, as a gift from a Friend to a Friend. I sincerely hope that you will find in them the truths you seek, as well as the truths you need.” “May I add that this gift comes to you by the courtesy of the Coward Shoe Company, which, as you know, is the sponsor of...Yours faithfully, THE HOUSE FRIEND.”
“If something is disturbing you and you are in need of advice, please feel free to write me. Write frankly, as to a trusted friend of the family. I can assure you that the strictest confidence will be observed.” Also: “You may hear my broadcasts three times each week; Monday on Station WLTH. 1400 Kilocycles; Wednesdays on Station WBBC 1400 Kilocycles, Station WFAB, 1300 Kilocycles. All three programs take place at 9:45 P.M.”
Condition: Tip of the lower right corner on front page is missing. Some of the corners are turned over in both the English and Hebrew sections. There is a little tear on the lower edge, front page.
There is a tear at the upper right by spine on the Hebrew front page. This 70+ year old booklet isn’t perfect, but it is a neat little booklet.
