Women's Equality Day was August 26th. Honoring our Female Ancestors Who Toiled Without Recognition & Saved Some Great Stuff!
Let The Candles Be Lighted or Country-School Days. Author: Wilbur S. Harris. Illustrated by I. Will. Kidd. Date: 1980. Size: 5 ˝" X 8 ˝". Soft cover.
From Preface: “ LET THE CANDLES BE LIGHTED portrays what it was like to be a pupil and a teacher in the one-room country schools of Ohio, Michigan, and other parts of the Midwest during the first third of the twentieth century, especially during the 1920's. While all pupils and teachers did not have the same experiences, the number of common experiences was surprising. Research indicates that except for differences caused by variation in physical geography and population density, the one-room schools in most parts of the United States were very similar during the 1920's.
For reasons of easy and interesting reading, this book was written in first-person story form. Robert Field was created only for the purpose of serving as a connecting link for binding together the various parts of the book.”
