In 1939, there was the movie premier of Gone With The Wind, and so many doll companies produced dolls capturing the spirit of the romantic Southern Belle dressed in beautiful flowing gowns. Dora lee and Vogue were no exceptions. This is a RARE 1939 Vogue Dora Lee in her version of the Southern Belle (or Scarlett). Dora Lee is an unmarked beautiful thin 11 inch jointed composition doll with a sad and wistful expression that is so captivating. She is a very hard doll to find and was dressed by the Vogue Home Sewers and is a tribute to them (Dora Lees clothing was never tagged or marked, but she was stamped to the bottom of her shoe "Dora Lee"). The composition body is in beautiful clean condition and is of excellent quality to the composition. Please carefully notice her beautiful thick clean full blonde mohair wig (the curls anyway poking out from the bonnet), gorgeous face paint, strong sultry smokey eye shadow, full fur lashes to her sleep eyes (open and close well), beautiful clean condition, and stunning appearance. Her stringing is tight. The blue and white floral print Southern Belle gown is in beautiful clean condition and the construction is excellent. Her complete gown also includes a hoop skirt/petticoat (beautiful clean condition; pale yellow spot to the back hem; some small bends to the petticoat hoop; just a fine bit of stitching edging has come off the sleeve edge and is very minor), matching pantaloons in clean condition as well, and matching bonnet with blue ribbon chin tie. She is a stunning doll and RARE and is a match for the Madame Alexander Scarlett dolls. She was well cared for and stored beautifully all these years.
