The pin is beautifully made, with terrific silver beading and braided wire work. On the reverse is a locket compartment for adding a memento. The clear plastic lid just pops out. Clasp is the old "C" type.
The matching earrings are exact replicas of the pin; lovely little drops suspended from pretty beaded silver wires.
I would date the suite to 1890-1910.
Pin measures about 1&1/8" and weighs 5.8 grms. Earrings hang just over 1" and weigh 2.6 grams.
Excellent condition. There is ever-so-slight denting on the middle of the pin, but it is negligible; quite normal for the age of the piece. Earrings are beautifully preserved.
Not marked but acid tests as sterling silver. The Iron Cross was a military decoration of the Kingdom of Prussia, and later of Germany.
The Cross was awarded during the Franco-German War, the First World War, and the Second World War.
It was normally a military decoration only — though there were instances of it being awarded to civilians for performing military functions.
