Tanzanites are a fairly new discovery, and the amount of attention they commanded when they were first discovered in 1967 in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro was nothing short of phenomenal.

Since they are only mined in a very small area in Tanzania, they are fairly rare (although you'd never know it with the amount of tanzanite found in jewelry stores!). In fact, some say the world supply of tanzanite will only last another 10-20 years.

So I should be buying tanzanite, not selling, right? Wrong! It might be the worst deal I've made in my life, but here goes:

These lovely 10K gold drop earrings are a sparkling cluster of genuine tanzanite. Nestled in the centre of the stones is one round-cut diamond. The stones are arranged in a star, or flower shape.

These beautiful gemstones are a pale violet-blue colour and are set on open gold mounts. They look terrific dangling from the ear!

If you prefer earrings with a shorter drop, these are for you. Total length from the post is only 1/2". Each tanzanite measures just over 2mm. The diamond is about 1 mm across. Total weight is 1.5 grams.

The earrings have been in my possession for about 3 years. and they are in excellent condition. I don't see any chipping to the stones. They just need a good cleaning.
