1880’s Haviland & Co Wedding Ring Covered Serving Dish
This gold trimmed covered serving dish was decorated to go with the popular Wedding Ring pattern produced by Haviland & Company in the 1880’s. The blank is the Anchor Blank, so named for the anchor motif at the handle of the lid. The handles of the lid as well those on the side of the dish are in the form of a loosely knotted rope. The details of the rope and anchor are accented with gold gilt. This gold accents the rims of the lid and the bowl as well.
The bowl measures just under 8 in diameter (not including the handles) and is approx 3½ high without the lid, and it is 5½ high with the lid. There is very minor wear to the gold, and the piece is free of chips, crazing or other signs of use. There are some manufacturing flaws as shown in the pictures.Blank Mark D, dated from 1876 - 1886 is on the bottom of the dish. The circular decorator mark is on both the bottom of the dish and the underside of the lid. It is Mark g, which dates from 1879 - 1889. Therefore, this piece would have been made between 1879 and 1886
