Victorian Piano Shawl Embroidered with Pansies and Geraniums

his beautiful shawl is from the Victorian period and is called a piano shawl. Victorians did not think a piece of furniture was complete until it had some textile covering it, and this style was the one favored for pianos.

The shawl is embroidered all over with pansies and geraniums. The pansies are in shades of yellow, lavender, and purple. The geraniums are in shades of pink. The fabric and fringe are a light tan, and I believe the fabric is silk. The shawl measures approx 50" square excluding the fringe. The fringe is approx 18" long. The shawl is in excellent condition with no stains or holes. The fringe is in good condition with only slight ruffling of the ends and no cross tangles.
