1880's Haviland & Co Moss Rose Covered Serving Dish Anchor Blank

This Moss Rose covered serving dish is absolutely mint. It certainly doesn't look to be almost 125 years old. The Moss Rose design is one of Haviland & Co's oldest and most loved designs. The outline of the stem, leaves and flowers appear to have been transferred on, and then translucent color applied over the transfer design.

The blank is the Anchor Blank, so named for the anchor motif at the handle of the lid. The handles of the lid as well those on the side of the dish are in the form of a loosely knotted rope. The details of the rope and anchor are accented in a medium light blue. This same color rims the lid and accents the bowl.

The bowl measures just under 8" in diameter (not including the handles) and is approx 3½" high without the lid, and it is 5½" high with the lid. Blank Mark D, dated from 1876 - 1886 is on the bottom of the dish. The circular decorator mark is on both the bottom of the dish and the underside of the lid. It is Mark g, which dates from 1879 - 1889. Therefore, this piece would have been made between 1879 and 1886.
