These gorgeous ornate silverplate salt cellars or nut dishes are marked "Mappin & Webbs London Sheffield W1017." John Newton Mappin and his brother-in-law, George Webb, founded their company in 1868 in Sheffield, England. They were silversmiths and electroplaters, who broke off from the family business which was established in 1774. The company was taken over by Asprey & Co in 1980, then later sold.
Each salt is embossed with a beautiful flower and leaf design on three sides with a medallion which could be engraved on the fourth side. The three paw feet are extending from lions' heads. Each salt measures about 2.5" in diameter across the bowl and stands about 1.5" tall. They are in beautiful used condition with some light scratches inside the bowl area, as well as a few spots of pitting and discoloration. They should polish up beautifully. My photography skills do not do them justice.
