The UK based Harmony Kingdom began making the Treasure Jest boxes in the early 1990's. They have quickly become highly collectible. The boxes are intricate carvings by master artists made of crushed marble and resin to resemble antique ivory, and are hand painted in the British Cotswolds by cottage industry artisans. The Treasure Jests are a humorous line often with secret images or markings that have meaning to artist's life.

This box is "Whale of a Time". According to Harmony Kingdom, "the whales are breaching the waves, one carrying Peter’s mouse in its fin. Near the mouse is a corked bottle with a message from a lost sailor. Inside the box is a mermaid, playing the harp. There are no inscriptions. Hallmarks include ©, diamond, HBC logo, ed.#, and Pc." This box is a second edition. A total of 15299 boxes were produced in total for this piece (including all the variations).

The box was carved by master carver Peter Calvesbert in 1996, released for sale 1/1/1997, and retired on 10/1/1998. The dimensions of this piece are 2.36 x 1.93 x 2.52 inches. The model number is TJWH2. "Whale of a Time" is referenced in the 9th edition Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited Editions by Mary L. Sieber. This box comes with it's original box and insert with the artist bio. The box figurine is in excellent condition, as is the packing box. Just a wonderful piece for whale lovers or collectors.
