The UK based Harmony Kingdom began making the Treasure Jest boxes in the early 1990's. They have quickly become highly collectible. The boxes are intricate carvings by master artists made of crushed marble and resin to resemble antique ivory. The Treasure Jests are a humorous line often with secret images or markings that have meaning to artist's life. "Turdus Felidae" is a figurine box of of a cat in a comical Jack Benny pose with a bird sitting on his head. It was carved by master carver Peter Calvesbert in 1999 for release on 6/1/99. Only 13822 boxes were issued, then the piece was retired on 4/15/2004. The dimensions of the piece are 1.93 x 2.17 x 3.5 inches. The model number is TJBR. The inside of the box is carved with 2 eggs and a ball of yarn. Under the bird, there is a carving of "got any rumors" and a web site address, which references two Harmony Kingdom collectors - Rob and Jay. A little mouse peaks out from the bird's wings and another from the cat's arm. Turdus Felidae is referenced in the 9th edition Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited editions by Mary L. Sieber with a trend price of $50. This one is more reasonably priced and comes with it's original box and an insert with the artist bio. Excellent condition.
