Victorian Furniture. Incredible pierced and carved rosewood recamier or meridienne. American. Attributed to Prudent Mallard. This dates to the early 3rd quarter of the 19th Century. Circa 1850. Fabulous example of American Rococo Revival. Finely carved scrolls and flowers. Looks like a wave with flowers is cascading on the back. Excellent detail. Finger carved. Cabriole legs. Good condition. The finish is old, probably original, and in good shape. The beautifully carved back is in good shape without loss. Probably upholstered about 20 or 30 years ago, and in good shape. Upholstery appears to be a gold crushed velvet without rips or holes. Has old horsehair stuffing beneath. The recamier was restored and tightened when last upholstered. This is truly a fabulous and hard to find example of a pierced carved American Rococo Revival Recamier or Meridienne. Guaranteed to date to the 3rd quarter of the 19th Century. More pictures to come.
