Victorian furniture. Price is for the pair. Wonderful pair of laminated rosewood his and hers arm chairs made by JH Belter, New York. Have not found a mark but these are guaranteed made by Belter. The chairs are in the Scroll pattern (sometimes called Simplicity). The chairs date back to the 1850s at circa 1855. Beautiful form on these Rococo Revival chairs. They feature scroll finger carving, serpentine seat, ending on graceful cabriole legs with original brass casters. The mans chair is slightly larger than the ladies chair. We just got these in and I haven't cleaned these up yet. Condition is good on both. The finish is old and possibly original on both. The upholstery is older but still in good usable shape. The larger mans chair had something spilled on one side (pic #4). The previous owner used steel wool to try to remove some of the spot and left part of the spot. I should be able to clean this properly and it will look much better. The rest of the chair is fine with normal scuffs dings etc. but nothing major. The smaller ladies chair has 2 small areas of laminate loss on one side (pic #5). There is also a small hairline on the top of the arm (last picture). Both chairs are sturdy. The larger chair measures about 41" tall, 23" wide, and about 23" deep. The smaller hair measures about 35" tall, 23" wide, and about 23" deep. Great pair of armchairs made by one of the best American Victorian furniture makers.
