Classical Furniture : Fabulous early butlers desk/server. It is a Classical piece with Gothic influences. American. Probably New York. Possibly Meeks. Circa 1835. It is mahogany and book matched flame mahogany veneer. This is a very high quality piece. Unmarked. All hand dovetailed. It measures about 47 1/2" tall by 42" wide and 21 1/2" deep. Nicely carved gothic scroll feet. Gothic panels on the cupboard. The piece has a bottom drawer, cupboards above that and the top drawer pulls out and flips down to reveal a butlers desk with a fabulous fitted interior. The interior is birdseye maple and mahogany. The interior is fitted with cubby holes, drawers, document drawers and a center door that opens up to reveal 3 more drawers. Old leather writing surface which has some wear and ink spots that only enhance the history of this piece. The flame mahogany is book matched throughout and has a warm glow and great patina. Condition is very good antique. It has its original finish which is in fair to good condition(top of piece slightly worn finish w/ dings, scuffs). 2 small age cracks, not detracting. Drawer knobs have been replaced. Great early piece of Americana.
