Rococo Rosewood Butlers Desk and Half Commode

Magnificent Two piece Rococo Rosewood Butlers Desk and Half Commode attributed to Alexander Roux. Both tops are inset White Carrera Marble. The top drawer of the desk pulls out and opens into a delightful writing surface. The interior is exquisite all finely constructed of Birdseye maple with rosewood trim and knobs. The exterior drawer face has wonderfully detailed floral carvings. Both front corners of the desk feature exceptional hand carved nudes all in solid rosewood. The doors on both the desk and half commode are adorned with extraordinary carved French style heads. Also notice the back mounts of the head carvings a common Roux pattern. The interior cabinet below is also all constructed in Birdseye Maple with rosewood trim. There are four interior drawers for storage and a hidden drawer on the very bottom of the desk cleverly constructed to look like the bottom trim. Although unsigned, we consulted with a few or our expert colleagues (one a book writer and Roux specialist), who also felt Roux was a fair attribution of this furniture.
