Honor Past, Present & Future generations this holiday season with eco-friendly gifts!
Crown Publishers, Inc. of New York, NY published the first edition in 1985. It was printed in the USA, measures about 9 ½ x 6 ½ x 2, has 645 pages, maps on the front and back page ends, a rusty brown board cover (with the author's name signed on the front as shown), a tan spine, and a colorful pictorial dust jacket painted by Hiroko.
The copy offered here is a first printing, first edition in near FINE vintage condition. It is not an ex-library book. The text appears bright, supple and unmarked (looks unread). Approaching FINE (AS NEW, MINT) condition, it has a hard to see uncolored seal embossed on the title page and faint storage wear and aging. The original unclipped dust jacket is in FINE vintage condition. It is glossy and like new, with minor wear as is found on books in new book stores. Please see the photos and note that we have since placed the jacket in a clear protective cover.
Copies of this book in such wonderful collectible condition such as this can be more difficult to find than those of Clan Of The Cave Bear. Hence, not only is this modern first edition a great read, it would also make a thoughtful gift for Auel fans and collectors.
According to the publisher, now, with her devoted Jondalar, Ayla boldly sets forth into the land of the Mamutoi--the Mammoth Hunters, the Others she has been seeking. Though Ayla must learn their strange customs and language, it is because of her uncanny hunting and healing skills that she is adopted into the Mammoth Hearth. Here Ayla finds her first women friends, and painful memories of the Clan she left behind. Here, too, is Ranec, the dark-skinned, magnetic master carver of ivory tusks to whom Ayla is irresistibly drawn--setting Jondalar on fire with jealousy. Throughout the icy winter, Ayla is torn between her two men. But soon will come the great spring mammoth hunt, when Ayla must choose her mate and her destiny -- to remain in the Hearth with Ranec, or to follow Jondalar into a far-off place and an unknown future.

Book Two. THE VALLEY OF HORSES (which we also have available)
