This tapestry depicts a young couple on a park bench in a romantic pose, one that suggests they are newly engaged or about to be betrothed. They are surrounded by three other (already married?) couples and a woman who looks like she is hesitating (eavesdropping?) holding a tray, perhaps about to take it to the young couple.

Wonderfully woven with fine threads of muted colors, this home decor accessory is ready to frame to suit your tastes – or be fashioned into a pillow, purse, or wall hanging.

The work of decorative art is about 17” x 13” and in very good condition, with variations that are commonly found with hand made items. It has a soft beige background with ivory, olive and light green, taupe, light & slate blue, dusty rose, gray and a hint of gold. An old Bay Area antique store tag is still attached and “San Diego, August 7, 1916” is hand written on the tapestry's backside. Perhaps it is a keepsake the World Fair held in Balboa Park from 1915 - 1916 to commemorate the opening of the Panama Canal.

Other key terms include Figural Man, Male, Gentlemen, Gentleman: Lady, Ladies, Woman and Female.

Item ID: RL-Tapestry-0257
