SALE Antique EAPG Glass Red Block Ruby Stain Butter Dome - 19th Century Victorian Era
This ruby flashed glass butter or cheese dish cover features a faceted finial and six-point star with Red Block (aka Barreled Block) cut. It is a classic Early American Pattern Glass pattern, which according to William Heacock on page 229 of his book, “Victorian Pattern Glass Book VII, Ruby-Stained Glass from A to Z” was made by Fostoria as “Virginia” beginning in 1888 and by Doyle and Company as “Eva” (No. 250) from about 1889 to 1893, at which time its production was continued by U.S. Glass Co. (as a result of a merger). The book reprints a page from an 1893 Pioneer Glass Co. Ltd. (of Pittsburgh, PA) catalog that shows an assortment of Doyle’s No. 250 pattern, including a round dome lid like the one offered here.
This lid is about 4” high and 5” in diameter. Overall, it is in very good vintage condition, with typical manufacturing variations, wear to the ruby flashing and rough spots along the finial's edges, yet otherwise, no chips, cracks or repairs.
