Honor Past, Present & Future generations this holiday season with eco-friendly gifts!
Most old Noritake collectibles, though of Japanese (Asian, Oriental) derivation were designed at the Morimura Brothers Trading Company in New York City, then produced at "the Company that makes Japan's Finest China" factory in Noritake, Japan for export to Western (Occidental) markets.
MARK: green Noritake “M in wreath” Hand Painted, Made in Japan mark registered in the late Art Nouveau era.
CONDITION: exceptional vintage condition (no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs), with little (if any) wear.
SIZE: almost 1 ¼” high & about 4 ½” across from top to the triangle's base.
COLORS: bone china white exterior with brown trim and black details; rich autumnal shades of peach, tan, butterscotch, orange, brown, gray, pink and lavender.
According to Van Patten in “The Collector's Encyclopedias of Noritake,” collectors named the pattern ‘Tree in Meadow’ (not Noritake); old Larkin catalogs called it "‘Colorful Scenic Pattern in Hand Painted Imported Noritake China’ (1930), or ‘Popular Scenic Pattern Imported Noritake China’ (1934).” The pattern has many variations—at least one for each season" (perhaps more). "One of the delights in handpainting is that each piece of any one item differs somewhat from each other piece, so that every ‘Tree in Meadow’ piece is unique” (Van Patten).
