This Noritake fancyware tobacco collectible features a hand painted black spade design. Smoking accessories in playing card suits were popular in the Roaring Twenties among bridge players. Today this memento would make a nice gift for tobacciana aficionados, card game enthusiast (be it Bridge, Pinochle, Poker, Blackjack, or Go Fish) and Noritake collectors.

CONDITION: Near mint, with no chips, cracks or crazing.

MARK: Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. magenta Noritake “M in wreath” Hand Painted, Made in Japan, registered in 1918 (DHS #27.0).

COLORS: glossy bone china white interior; the luster (lustre, lustreware) is bright orange and butterscotch yellow, with white lines and a black spade,

SIZE: about 2 ½” at its widest & 1 ¼” tall.

ORIGIN: of Japanese (Asian, Oriental) derivation, most pre-WWII Noritake collectibles were designed at the Morimura Brothers trading company in New York City, then made and hand decorated by employees at the Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. ("the Company that makes Japan's Finest China") factory in Noritake, Japan for export to Western (Occidental) markets.
