Designed by Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. (aka Noritake) for export to the USA in the late Art Nouveau or early Art Deco Era, this mayonnaise or whipped cream set is an exceptional find! Complete sets like this with a bowl, ladle, and under plate from the late 1910s - early 1920s that are in such good condition are scarce. The pattern’s ornate design features a geometric octagonal shape, raised gold details including various stylized flowers, leaves and swags. It is an elegant, festive and rare serving set.

MARK: Noritake magenta red “M in wreath” Hand Painted, Made in Japan, registered in 1918 (DHS #27.3).

CONDITION: Very Good to Excellent Vintage condition (no cracks, chips, crazing or repairs); some fading, yet the raised gold moriage beading is in excellent condition.

COLORS: bone china white, kelly green borders and lavish gold gilding and trim.

SIZE: The mayo set is about 4” tall and the underplate is about 7” across at its widest point; the spoon is about 5” long.

USES: Given its exceptional condition and nature, this set is suitable as a wedding or anniversary gift, or as a gift for any number of other occasions (Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Birthdays, etc.). Its new owner can use it to serve delectable sauces or jams at special occasions, and/or display it with pride.

ORIGIN: Of Japanese (Asian, Oriental) derivation, most old Noritake collectibles were designed at the Morimura Brothers Trading Company in New York City, then produced and hand painted at "the Company that makes Japan's Finest China" factory in Noritake, Japan for export to Western (Occidental) markets.
