This Noritake fancyware dish features a city in silhouette -- Venice or an Eastern Port (Alexandria, Cairo, Istanbul?) -- with an oarsman at the helm of a gondola in the foreground. Given its exceptional quality and condition, the handled serving dish would make a great gift for collectors of maritime and nautical items, Noritake and anyone who enjoys vintage collectibles. Display it as a work of decorative art and use it on special occasions.

CONDITION: the dish is in excellent vintage condition (no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs). The colors are vibrant and the gold has very little (if any) fading.

MARK: Noritake magenta “M in wreath” Hand Painted, Made in Japan, with Japanese / Chinese characters, registered by Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. in 1918.

ORIGIN: Of Japanese (Asian, Oriental) derivation, most old Noritake collectibles were designed at the Morimura Brothers Trading Company in New York City, then produced and hand painted at the Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. ("the Company that makes Japan's Finest China") factory in Noritake, Japan for export to Western (Occidental) markets.

SIZE: About 9” from handle to handle and 2 1/2” tall.

COLORS: bone china white with gold trim; the cityscape is a rich midnight blue and green, with brown, red and yellow details (sometimes referred to as pattern # N1096).
