The set is made of crystal glass that has been sprayed with an iridescent finish. This finish is somewhat frosty and has a spotty appearance (hence the name oil spot). Each piece is scalloped with a interior ribbing or paneling.
The under place, or ice liner, is 6¾ inches in diameter and stands 1¼ inches tall. It does not sit completely flat on a surface. The pontil on the plate is polished smooth.
The bowl flares out and then has each point of the scallops turn inward. It measures 5½ inches at its widest and 2½ inches tall. The base measures about 2½ inches across and is ground smooth. There is a very slight gold effect to the edge when turned in the light. I do not know if this is an effect of the glass and iridescence or remnants of paint. There is one very small chip on the rim of the bowl. It measures under 1/8 inch long and less than 1/16 inch tall. This is the only damage on either piece.
The pictures make the set appear much more frosted than the actual pieces due to glare.
