Czech Sun Purpled Glass IRice Perfume Lamp

This dainty little perfume lamp measures just 4 1/4 inches in height. These lamps were popular in the 1930s to help scent the air. Ones like this were made in Czechoslovakia and then imported by Irving W. Rice and Co. or New York.

This lamp is one piece of glass with a lamp and cord insert (which is one piece also). There is a slight indent at the top of the lamp where perfume would be placed. The heat of the bulb would help the perfume scent the air.

The molded glass pattern is clear with many fine ribs at the top part of the piece. The middle is a ribbed frosted glass (satin glass). The base is clear with a seriated edge. The glass has a slight purple hue from age. The hue is natural, this piece was not artificially UV'd.

The lamp does work but the cord is frayed and really does need replaced. The side clips (that hold the light socket in place) are clean but the base of these clips have the "greenies". There is corrosion starting where they connect to the bulb socket.

The glass portion of the lamp only has one small flake. This is on the inside edge of the cord indent. This does not go through the glass. It measures 1/4 inch in length and 1/8 inch at its tallest (it is triangular shaped). There are no other chips, cracks, breaks or repairs.
