This magnificent choker-style necklace epitomizes all that is so wonderful about early Victorian jewelry. This jewel is pure romance, and SO feminine! Crafted from gilded sterling-grade silver (unmarked but tested), this jewel features a magnificently-crafted clasp which is a fantasy of textured leaves and branches, and shiny swirls and scallop shells! The center of the clasp boasts a bright, white paste of approx. 1 "carat", set in a foiled, closed back, pushed up mounting of sterling silver. SO LOVELY!
The body of this necklace is comprised of 10 strands of silver link-in-link chain, and measures 1" wide. The clasp measures 1 1/2" tall x 1 7/8" wide, and the necklace is in magnificent, all-original condition! The hand-cut, "tongue-in-groove" clasp fits securely into the central plaque, and the jewel is free of damage, repair, or replacements. This jewel measures 13" wearable length, but extra links could easily be added to the chain for added length. This jewel weighs 58.6 grams.
Simply a marvelous example of the finest in early-Victorian jewelry, it appears that this necklace has NEVER been cleaned, it and boasts a rich, stunning patina! One could easily polish it up to its original shining glory, but I choose to leave the age patina on all of my antique jewelry, as it attests to its history. This choker should be worn just as it is, and it really glows on the neck!
If you love the BEST in Romantic-era jewelry, this silver-gilt collar belongs on your neck and in your collection! This will knock them out - wear it for evening, and you will get compliments galore! Best of all, the choker style is a classic! Do not miss this 165-year-old beauty; necklaces of this age rarely survive in mint condition!
